CHS Board Members
Meet our dedicated volunteers who comprise our Board!
Sandra Cantrell, President
What drew you to the CHS? Growing up in Washington, D.C. and frequenting the Smithsonian museums, my love of history started as a young child. History has always been my favorite subject so what could be more fitting than to combine that with my local community?
How long have you lived in Clermont? Nearly 30 years minus a couple of years in Gainesville.
What is the most important aspiration you have for the CHS? To continue the sense of community we so love about Clermont. I want to see folks from across generations to contribute to our community and keep Clermont the special place we call home.
What has been the biggest challenge of your tenure with the organization? Raising awareness that we are a fun group of people to hang out with!
Which historical landmark in Clermont is the most important to you (and why)? The bell tower plaza is special to me because it pays tribute to the many schools that have served our community throughout the years. Two of my uncles rescued the bell from a scrap metal pile when the last school building was set for demolition. The Clermont Historical Society has worked hard for the past few years to design and build the current bell tower and surrounding plaza for everyone to enjoy who visit the park.
